Designate a Project Lead

A capacity-building project requires skillful coordination. A Project Lead convenes the organization’s LGBTQ Access Team and stewards the group’s goals and tasks. A Project Lead should possess effective logistical skills and be capable of inspiring collaborative work and listening to diverse points of view.

Project leads are typically staff members. However, an organization may want to consider hiring an experienced outside consultant. In some cases, the role could also be filled by an engaged board member or committed volunteer. An organization’s leaders should be involved in appointing and/or hiring the Project Lead.

Suggested Process:

  1. Assess the organization’s readiness for a capacity-building project.
  2. Develop a job description outlining the Project Lead’s responsibilities and scope of authorization.
  3. Invite a prospective Project Lead (or two) to fill the role.
