Create a Learning Plan

Take time to develop the organization’s understanding of the root causes of violence and the complex and interlocking barriers to access for LGBTQ survivors. Such an understanding can help facilitate the group toward appropriate goals and strategies. Access Team members should strive to be well informed about barriers for LGBTQ communities and capable of articulating why LGBTQ access is a priority.

Suggested Steps

  1. Identify learning needs and gaps in knowledge.
  2. Develop a fun and engaging learning plan for Access Team members.
  3. Engage the organization’s staff and volunteers in educational opportunities (lunch hour film screenings, speakers, workshops, trainings, attending community events, etc.).
